Dr. Casey Rohrbeck
Hi! I’m Dr. Casey (she/her/hers) and I’m a board-licensed naturopathic doctor living in Portland, OR. I found naturopathic medicine by happenstance through a podcast recommended to me by my mother-in-law, a practicing pharmacist. I had graduated from San Diego State University with my BA and was on the search for my career path when I learned of this awe-inspiring approach to medicine. “You mean there’s a way to help people heal and not just momentarily feel better? That there are treatments that are gentle, powerful and affordable to everyone?!” The information I learned in that podcast inspired me to dig deeper, and as I did, I kept thinking, “Why doesn’t anyone know about this?! People should know about this!”
Two years later I started at the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) in Portland, OR, the oldest naturopathic medical school in the country. While there, I learned about the mind-body connection and developed a passion for treating patients through this lens. We are the combination of our emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual bodies, and though we have treatments that target one more directly than the other, these bodies cannot be separated. What we experience on a physical level affects us emotionally and mentally, and what we experience emotionally affects us physically. It is all connected! And that’s why I help my patients heal through the use of therapies that support the whole person, including craniosacral therapy, homeopathy, biotherapeutic drainage, hydrotherapy, and nature cure.
Dr. Casey’s Philosophy on Dis-ease and Healing
Dr. Casey believes we are finite beings with a threshold on how much we can take on or endure. This is why we were created with elimination pathways, because “everything that comes in, needs to go out” in order for our system to continue to function optimally.
Our entire system is built around our emunctories, otherwise known as the organs of elimination. These include our liver, kidneys, lungs, GI system, and even our nervous system. Everything we eat, breathe, experience, is an input into our system, and if our elimination pathways are not working at their optimal capacity, we begin to become bogged down and overloaded, and this is when symptoms start to show up.
When patients present with a symptom, for example, headaches, it is not about treating the pain of the headache, but rather about opening the pathway of elimination so the toxins causing the headaches are no longer present. And this doesn’t only apply to physical toxins; emotional experiences and trauma can also occupy space in our body, making it more difficult for us to process the physical and emotional experiences of the present and thus, negatively impacting our health.
It is Dr. Casey’s goal to help her patients open and optimize their elimination pathways and release their past traumas so they may move forward with the health and stamina to take on whatever life offers them next.
